In 2005 the Japanese Government launched the 'Cool Biz' campaign encouraging ministry workers to buck traditional attire in favor of a business casual look. The driving force behind this initiative wasn't fashion, but the environment! Without blazers and other formal wear, offices were able to cut back on air conditioning.
